At eighty-six, retired coroner Porter Halsey knows more about death than most people ever will—and he knows when something about it doesn’t look right.
When his best friend, Tom Delk, dies, everyone is ready to accept the obvious explanation: old age, failing health, natural causes. Porter isn’t so sure. Tom’s death bothers him in ways he can’t quite put to rest, and soon Porter discovers troubling questions involving missing valuables, medications, and other residents whose deaths may not have been as peaceful as everyone believed.
With the help of his aging friends in the Beer & Bowling Society, Porter begins an investigation of his own. The trouble is, his memory is slipping, his body isn’t particularly interested in detective work, and someone at Sunset Living may be counting on both.
